Johnson County Commission Chairman candidate John Segale will participate in a candidate forum on Kansas City Week in Review on KCPT Channel 19 Friday July 23 at 7:30 PM. The forum will be rebroadcast at 11 PM and is also available on line at http://www.kcpt.org/news/kcwir.shtml.“I am pleased that Channel 19 has chosen to fulfill their public interest commitment by producing this candidate forum. KCPT has provided information on regional issues for a number of years. The commission chairman election is about voters choosing who can best give Johnson County a voice and a choice on regional issues.
The absence of a voice for Johnson County over the past 8-years is evidence enough of the failed leadership of the current chairman. I have a record of bringing the community together to make positive change at both the city and county government through cooperation and collaboration with citizens, businesses and elected officials.
I hope we will discuss the bloated salaries paid to the County Chairman and District Commissioners. These folks are telling people they are financially astute and accountable when they are seeking a four hour a week position paid $87,000. The position is so low profile that only 8% of citizens can identify the County Commission Chairman. It is unconscionable for taxpayers to pay the chairman $87,000 and the district commissioners $50,000. Financial accountability starts at the top and the commission sets the salary. As chairman I will cut all commission salaries to $25,000 or about what the Overland Park Mayor is paid and save taxpayers over $210,000 a year.”
John Segale is running to save taxpayers money and create a coherent voice for the Johnson County community by cooperatively bringing local governments together to define a future we need and can afford.
Pro-Taxpayer Agenda:
- Cut obscene commission salaries by over 50%, saving over $210,000 annually.
- Schedule all commission meetings in evenings to be accessible to all.
- Coordinate with our 20 cities to local government duplication and waste.
John Segale has 11-years of elected public service demonstrating a solid record of protecting the public purse and creating positive results for our community. John served 7-years (3-terms) on the Shawnee City Council representing Ward 1 and 4-years (1-term) on the County Commission representing District 2 (Lake Quivira, Lenexa and Shawnee).
